Utu Kilimo opens farmer training applications

The next cohort of Utu Kilimo farmer trainees at Timau opens for applications this month.

Utu Heritage is recruiting youth and women's groups from Nanyuki, Timau and Doldol for the next Utu Kilimo training cycle. Training covers soil and water discipline, indigenous and drought-tolerant crops, citrus agronomy and market pricing.

Catchment committee formed for the Murangai River

Farmers, schools, sanctuary scouts and Utu Heritage now sit on one committee for the Murangai catchment.

Following the Porini river watch, a joint catchment committee has been formed to bring water abstraction data and elders' testimony to the county water office. The committee meets monthly at Nanyuki.

Yaakunte phrasebook drafted with Sieku elders

A working Yaakunte phrasebook now supports weekly language lessons in Mukogodo Forest.

Recordings made with Yaaku elders at Sieku have been transcribed into a working phrasebook, handed back to the community and used in the weekly Yaakunte circle led by four young apprentice teachers.

Farmers, flower farms, schools and custodians meet to review water abstraction in the Murangai catchment.

Utu Heritage convenes the first public forum on the Murangai River, presenting the community water diary and the elders' record of the river's old flood lines.

Riverbank planting of indigenous seedlings raised in the Utu na Mazingira nursery.

Volunteers, youth groups and schools join the Utu na Mazingira team for the short-rains planting along the Nanyuki water lines. Bring water, a hat and closed shoes.
